Lunch Break

The achievement of the new Gigabit connectivity targets requires significant investment. What are the key drivers of investing in very high capacity infrastructure from the operators’ perspective? Do the traditional telco business models need changing?

The results of the latest FTTH Market Panorama will be revealed and discussed by the speakers. What are the developments in fibre coverage and take-up worldwide? How does Europe perform in global comparison? Which countries are the newcomers to the “fibre league”?

Connectivity is increasingly underpinning all aspects of daily life an business and connectivity needs are moving from fibre for Internet access at home to fibre for connecting everything. Smart cities, autonomous driving, smart metering, e-health, IoT etc. are driving a digital revolution and fibre will be the enabler infrastructure of the future where everyone and everything is connected everywhere.

Coffee Break

The European Commission set new Gigabit connectivity targets for Europe to be achieved by 2025. What difference can political broadband objectives and policy make in private investment decisions? What is their role in the allocation of public subsidies?

As the Internet of Things is becoming the reality of daily life the speakers will discuss key IoT technologies, services and applications as well as the underlying infrastructure needs. How can operators become genuinely IoT ready? What pro-active role can governments take?

As data traffic is increasing exponentially fibre is becoming the enabler infrastructure of next generation wireless and fixed networks and technologies. With 5G on the horizon fixed and wireless networks will converge and fibre will be increasingly a strategic asset for multiple purposes.

Welcome

What are the key triggers and brakes of fibre investments from investors’ and analysts’ perspective? Which business models are preferred by non-telco investors and why ? How relevant is the policy and regulatory environment for fibre investment?

The final results of the FTTH Council Europe’s cost modelling study will be revealed and discussed by the speakers. How much does it really cost to build the very high capacity infrastructure underpinning the European Gigabit Society? What are the benefits for end-users and how can we prevent a new “Gigabit-divide”?

Fibre product innovation and choosing the right solutions for a deployment project can reduce costs, OPEX, improve the end-user experience and increase the value of the fibre network. This session will explore the latest trends and innovations.

Coffee Break

As the EU legislator is considering the Commission’s proposal for the European Electronic Communications Code, key stakeholders will discuss the regulatory framework needed for competitive investments in very high capacity (VHC)  infrastructure. Which access remedies can foster competitive VHC network deployment? What are the potential consequences of new business models for end-users and investors?

The speakers will discuss case studies of smart, fibre cities from different parts of the world (US, MENA, UK). How can smart, fibre cities improve the quality of life for residents and local business opportunities? Which are the key transformational services, underlying infrastructure & technologies?

Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualisation (NFV) applied in access networks are transforming the management and boundaries of access networks as we know it. This session will discuss the new services and applications SDN & NFV will enable, the impact on costs for operators and the competitive edge an alway on, faster to market and more simply managed network can provide.
